Why this blog?

I created this blog because I want people know this island. Who visit will find a new place full of beautiful things, things like a beautiful crystalline sea and clean sand. It's these characteristics that this beach can attract many people. But not everything is so beautiful in this beach, because by observing and analyzing the beach, I could understand that on that island is not displayed a unique culture representing Curaçaoans. That's why I made this blog. to show my experience lived in Curacao, but considering a critical perspective on the situations that are presented on this island.

My experience

In this blog, I am going to talk about my visit to Willemstad, Curacao. This city have two neighborhoods, in the city centre, that has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In this city, the tourism is the major industry.

Curacao letters in Punda

When I was 15, my mom told me that we were going to go to "summer vacation" in Curacao (this was in 2010). Before such news I was perplexed, because I didn't know anything about this country. In June 23, 2010 we do the trip to Curacao in a plane.

Leaving Cali.

When we arrived in Willemstad, we settled into the hotel. After this we went to the beach and we saw how beautiful it is. It's just like in the pictures. ¡This beach are incredible! I had never seen a beach so pretty. The water was so clear and clean that up I could see my feet (and I'm not exaggerating).

Then, we went to downtown to discover why UNESCO had declared a world heritage site. And we discovered this beautiful and unique structure. With differents forms and colors. A beautiful landscape.

After that, we went to eat, but wanted to eat something that was typical of here, something that we could only see here. We searched everywhere but we saw the same thing, is that this island has so many foreigners that even evicted the typical foods. In this city we found EVERYONE meals, LESS here.

This is why I began to worry about the culture of the city. I discovered that Curacao was an island that was full of foreigners. All who live here have different native origins. The people that some were native Dominican Republic, Colombia, Haiti, Suriname, Venezuela, Jamaica, Portugal, India, China and Guyana, among others, but no one was a native of Curacao.globalization had to be given more value to the consumer culture to local cultures, this led to local cultures disappear.
